The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is meant for South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60 years, who have insufficient means, who do not receive social grants on behalf of herself/ himself or who are not contributing to or eligible for UIF payment, and have no financial support from any other source. Sassa has announced several changes to how the Social Relief of Distress is managed. The SASSA R350 SRD Grant has become very important for many households who have been struggling in recent years. This appeal process is very important to understand.

Sassa announced that they will no longer deal with reconsideration requests related to unsuccessful R350 SRD grants. This function will be taken over by the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). So if you want to make a R350 Grant appeal to Sassa this will be important for you.

One of the consequences of this change will see the old way of submitting a reconsideration request for the R350 SRD grant will fall away. Instead, unsuccessful clients must now submit an SRD reconsideration request via the new SRD grant appeals website.

Step 1. Click on the message “click here to lodge and appeal or check appeal status” to access the appeals portal.

Step 2: Type in your ID and the cellphone number used to make an application

for the grant

Step 3: Press “send pin” and wait for the sms with verification pin. Then enter

the pin and press “submit”. This is to make sure that you are the right person making the appeal. Without the verification pin you will not be able to proceed with the process. You also need to have the cellphone you used to make application with you, otherwise you will not be able

to make the application. If for any reason you have changed or lost your cellphone, you must log into the “srd.sassa.gov.za” website to update your details. (TO BE DONE FROM July 1st)

Step 4: Please enter the “verification pin” received and press “submit”

Step 5: Select the month you are appealing for. If you have applied for one month only it with show the month already. The system will also show you the reason why your application was declined

Step 6: Please select the “drop down” arrow to choose the reason for your appeal application. Please select one of the reasons on the list.

Step 7: Then press “submit” and you are done.
